ROME – Building a home or business can often mean coordinating with multiple contractors, visiting different shops and piecing together decisions along the way.
Owner Patrick Wirtz said Wirtz & Co. Construction is looking to streamline that process with an “everyone-under-one-roof” model set to open this summer at 1398 Alpine Drive.
Patrick said the new, comprehensive showroom is designed to simplify the construction process from start to finish.
Everything under one roof
As a team, Patrick said it quickly became clear they needed improved organization and to bring all contractors under one roof.
Consolidating resources, people and planning in one place, he said, would improve efficiency and help streamline what had been somewhat scattered operations.
The constant back-and-forth of coordinating customers and staff from their vehicles, Patrick said, eventually became too much – leading to the realization that an office was necessary to create structure and stay organized.
Patrick said the building itself is being constructed using the same materials they recommend to customers – from cabinets and countertops to a selection of flooring and carpeting options.
“Customers will be able to literally walk into our office and touch/feel everything we’re going to bring into their house,” he said. “Anyone who walks up to the door will see the actual decking in place that we will use on their home. We will literally have everything on-site that we bring into their home. They will be able to see how it [already] looks. The home is the biggest investment of your life, and of course, people want to get the visual and be able to see what they want. The [new showroom] will make all the difference.”
Patrick said those that will be represented in Wirtz & Co. Construction’s “everyone-under-one-roof” model include:
- Everlast Composite Siding
- Blue Door Vinyl Siding
- QE Soffit and Fascia
- Owens Corning
- Duration Designer Shingles
- American Woodmark Cabinetry
- McDermott Top Shop Counter tops
- Select Trusses and Lumber
- A&J Plumbing
- Sand Country Electric
- Hoffman Trucking and Excavating
- MSH Concrete
- Temperature Pros Heating and Cooling
- Rome Storage Systems
- Home Depot
- Andrew Hewitt
- Drexel Building Supply
- Lycon Concrete
Thanks to the “strong community support,” Patrick said they already have an extensive range of samples for the showroom, including about 20 cabinet doors, 15 flooring sections and 20 carpet samples.
“Everybody I work with has been so awesome helping me get to this point,” he said.
Patrick said the location of the new office was also a strategic choice, noting its proximity to key contractors.
“We are also on the same road as my mason and excavator [businesses],” he said. “These contractors can drive two minutes down the road and stop by anytime.”
Patrick said the office will also function as a one-stop shop for clients, offering services such as land purchasing, home insurance, mortgage rate options and construction loan setup – with a lending company, insurance agent and realtor all on-site.
Patrick said the office will also serve as a convenient and welcoming space for clients’ planning meetings.
“It’s going to have a designated room set up so that we can display blueprints up on a TV, where we can go through the process with the client, room by room,” he said. “We can have a 3D rendering so clients can see what they’re picking. I want to make it the simplest process for people that we can.”
From start to finish
Founded in 2019, Patrick said Wirtz & Co. Construction got its start after a close friend allowed him to build his house.
“So, that’s what we did,” he said. “Even in those first days, we had a clear vision about what it means to deliver high-quality construction – offering that level of professionalism and transparency that is missing with some builders. We just wanted to make sure everything was top notch.”
Patrick said that first build ultimately led him and others to make the decision to go out on their own.
“We sat down one day in my trailer and said, ‘Let’s stop working for others and do this ourselves,’” he said.
Being the owner-operator of Wirtz & Co. Construction, Patrick said, allows him to stay hands-on at every stage of the company and its projects – working directly with clients and guiding work through completion.
“[Being involved] in every part of the completion – that’s awesome,” he said.
As a general contractor, Patrick said the company takes on a wide range of comprehensive projects, specializing in 100% start-to-finish custom home building.
“There’s really nothing that we don’t do [from a construction standpoint], except for trades’ work like plumbing, HVAC and electrical,” he said. “We already have trusted subcontractors we work with, and we work with the same subcontractors on every project.”
Patrick said he’s been involved in construction since childhood.
“When I was a kid, we started remodeling some businesses with my stepdad at about seven or eight years of age,” he said. “I did take a break for a few years out of high school but returned to it once I turned 21.”
Patrick said he’s worked in nearly every aspect of the construction industry – from digging the holes, to running the excavator, to pouring concrete.
High-quality philosophy
Patrick said Wirtz & Co. Construction has carved out a clear niche in the industry, combining technical expertise with a client-focused approach that emphasizes communication, transparency and long-term performance.
“Every project we handle is approached with a detailed understanding from the newest materials to the most recent scopes of work – whether it’s roofing and a system that’s backed by our 50-year warranty or a full exterior or a brand new custom home,” he said.

Patrick said Wirtz & Co. Construction has also expanded into custom homebuilding with that same philosophy – “thoughtful planning, high-quality materials, a commitment to build homes that are both visually refined and structurally amazing.”
Like many other industries, Patrick said construction is currently facing a number of challenges.
“One of the biggest challenges is maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship as we continue to grow,” he said. “As we expand into more custom home-building, the challenge becomes even more important, scaling operations without compromising our quality standards industry-wide.”
He said fluctuating material costs also continue to pose challenges for builders, along with the importance of helping clients navigate a wide range of decisions – something made easier with the support of a strong team.
Whether it’s an insurance claim or a new home build, Patrick said clear communication and guidance throughout the process are key.
“There are a lot of moving parts to keep [the building process] going,” he said. “And, as we’ve grown tremendously, we are always keeping our eye on quality.”
Patrick said there is really no seasonality to the construction business, noting that Wirtz & Co. Construction is active year-round – even in extreme cold – given how busy its workload is.
“We don’t have the time to slow down,” he said. “There is no question that the exterior work is hard – I won’t put shingles on if it’s colder than 32 degrees out. We stop our roofing [in severe conditions], unless it’s an emergency job – we [typically] stop those projects from Dec. 1 to March 1. I just won’t take that risk. A lot of guys will keep going, but I choose not to. And it does cost more to work in the winter.”
Patrick said the construction business comes with its rewards, with the greatest being the finished result.
“[The best part of our work] is being part of somebody’s dream,” he said. “Watching somebody’s dream come together. When they walk in the house, and when their reaction is so positive – that ‘awe’ moment.”
Another key highlight of the work, Patrick said, is the relationships built over time, with referrals and word of mouth fueling much of their growth.
“I don’t do a whole lot of marketing, but our projects come from that kind of a referral and repeat clients, which [I think] speaks about the trust I’ve built in the community,” he said.
Patrick said he thinks customers often appreciate the ease of the process and experience of working with the Wirtz & Co. Construction team.
“Everybody I have on my crew enjoys what they’re doing,” he said. “Our team has a passion for creating. Like our roofing guys – they love roofing, and they like running [the shingles] a certain way.”
Early on, when business nearly outgrew capacity, Patrick said it became clear Wirtz Construction needed to take some significant steps to find a better balance.
In one year alone, he said the company completed 300 roofs – a pace that continued to accelerate, prompting the need for better organization.
Patrick said he realized he had to shift his focus from working in the business to working on it.
Today, he said the company’s growth continues to be guided by a commitment to constant improvement – finding better systems, stronger organization and more efficient ways to serve clients.
Patrick said this mindset is what has driven each stage of expansion, from restructuring teams to refining how projects are managed.
“[The truth is], I can’t help everybody,” he said. “I think that’s the biggest thing I’ve learned over the years.”
Still committed to continuous improvement, Patrick said he is always looking for ways to better manage his time and run his business.
The new showroom and office, he said, represent the latest example of that philosophy.
