WESTON – Marshfield Medical Center–Weston recently celebrated the grand opening of its new Women’s Health & Imaging Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the state-of-the-art facility.

Marshfield Clinic Radiologist Sarah Nielsen said the new center brings together a full range of women’s imaging services in one convenient location, including screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, breast biopsy, MRI and bone density testing.

The center – according to equipment vendor Hologic – also became the first location in Wisconsin to offer Contrast Enhanced Mammography (CEM).

“CEM is like a regular mammogram, except the patient receives an iodine-based dye injection before the mammogram,” Nielsen said. “The dye makes it easier to see new blood vessels that form when hyperactive cancers grow.”

Research shows CEM finds breast cancer better than traditional mammograms and is more comparable to a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

“This is an exciting addition to our services here in Weston,” Nielsen said. “Patients can now access the most advanced medical care available nationwide – right in their own community.”

Multiple medical disciplines come together to serve patients at the Women’s Health & Imaging Center, Nielsen said,  including oncology, radiation therapy and surgical services.

“This is state of the art in more ways than one,” said Chris Soska, president of Marshfield Medical Center-Weston. “We have the latest diagnostic breast imaging technology and a comprehensive team of professionals, all in one location.”
