WAUSAU – The Wausau River District has been named a 2026 Accredited Main Street America program, recognizing its continued efforts in downtown revitalization and community-based economic development.
According to mainstreet.org, the designation is the highest level of recognition from Main Street America and reflects compliance with national standards focused on leadership, community engagement, funding stability and preservation-based development.
Main Street America President and CEO Erin Barnes said the Wausau River District demonstrates a strong commitment to investing in the people and places that make its downtown district unique.
Wausau River District Executive Director Rylie Hutchinson said the honor highlights ongoing investment in downtown Wausau, which includes 34 blocks, 326 small businesses and a growing lineup of community events such as the Night Market Series.
According to Hutchinson, the organization reported more than 58,000 attendees across 22 events in 2025, along with thousands of volunteer hours supporting downtown initiatives.
“Being accredited for the 24th year in a row is an honor and testament to those who are
investing in our community,” he said. “We can’t wait for everyone to see what we have in store for 2026.”
