APPLETON – Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc. and First 5 Fox Valley have begun renovations on the former Trout Museum building in downtown Appleton to create a new Family Resource Center.

First 5 Fox Valley Director Barb Tengesdal said the five-story facility at 111 W. College Ave. will feature free public play spaces on the first two floors, a childcare center on the third floor, rentable office space on the fourth floor and multipurpose rooms for parent education on the fifth floor.

Kurt Peeters, director of design at Hoffman, said construction started in April following six months of planning and design work.

Peeters said completed work includes roof replacement, selective demolition, framing of new walls and mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades.

Additional interior work, including installation of wiring, pipes and vents, he said, is now underway, with the renovation expected to be completed in the fall.

Tengesdal said the center is intended to provide year-round support and resources for children, parents and families throughout the community.

“The Family Resource Center will play a critical role in serving children, parents and families year-round and will have a lasting, positive impact on the community for generations to come,” she said.
