FOND DU LAC – The City of Fond du Lac recently hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of its Main Street Rehabilitation Project, a major road enhancement initiative in downtown Fond du Lac.

“We have a new Main Street for the first time in 30 years,” Fond du Lac City Manager Joe Moore said. “This investment is part of the ongoing improvements throughout the downtown, which now has a record level of occupancy.”

Moore said the Main Street improvements included milling and removing the top five to seven inches of asphalt from 6th Street to Merrill Street, laying a new layer of pavement and repairing curbs, gutters, crosswalks/ramps, utility structures and water mains.

City of Fond du Lac Operations Superintendent Adam Schmitt said it took many hands for this vital project to come to fruition.

“I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all members of the construction team, including crewmembers, engineers, city officials, administrators, contractors and many more who had a hand in ensuring this project’s success,” he said.

Amy Krupp, executive director of the Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership, said the project represents an investment not just in infrastructure, “but in the heartbeat of our city.”
