HSHS, Lifepoint Rehabilitation partner on new rehabilitation hospital

HOWARD – Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) and Lifepoint Rehabilitation announced a joint venture to operate a new 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital currently under construction in the Greater Green Bay area.

The facility – which will be named HSHS | Rehabilitation Hospital – is located on South Taylor Street near HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center and is expected to open later this year.

Bob Erickson – HSHS Wisconsin market president and CEO – said the free-standing hospital will feature the only regional traumatic brain injury (TBI) unit in Northeast Wisconsin and will provide specialized rehabilitation care for adults recovering from stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, orthopedic surgery, neurological conditions, amputations and other complex needs. 

With 40 private rooms, Erickson said the hospital will double its current inpatient rehab capacity in the region, expanding access while allowing HSHS St. Vincent Hospital to repurpose its existing rehab unit for acute care.

Per the release, Lifepoint Rehabilitation will manage day-to-day operations, and the hospital will join its national network of nearly 50 rehabilitation hospitals, while care will be delivered by Prevea Health physicians alongside a multidisciplinary team of nurses and therapists.

Erickson said the new hospital strengthens the growing medical corridor near Interstate 41 and supports rising demand for specialized rehabilitation services in Northeast Wisconsin.

President Russ Bailey said Lifepoint Rehabilitation knows that a specially designed and outfitted facility like this enables the team to provide more seamless and adaptive care.
