CLEVELAND – Lakeshore College has been granted provisional accreditation by the American Welding Society under the AWS QC47 certification standard, allowing the college to conduct welder performance qualification testing and submit credentials for national certification.
Rachel Kroeplien – dean of applied technology and economic development for Lakeshore College – said the designation authorizes the college to administer approved welding process tests aligned with nationally recognized codes and to submit welder credential packages for inclusion in the AWS National Registry of Certified Welders.
Kroeplien said the accreditation strengthens Lakeshore’s ability to support regional workforce development and employer needs through expanded certification services and welding education programs.
“This milestone strengthens our ability to serve regional employers and support workforce development,” she said.
Kroeplien said the provisional accreditation applies to both on-site and off-site testing locations and is valid through Jan. 1, 2027.
“This milestone strengthens our ability to serve regional employers and support workforce development,” she said.
To maintain the status, Kroeplien said the college must complete annual self-audits and a full on-site review every three years.
