OSHKOSH – As new national standards for electrical system maintenance take effect, COO Dan Shea said Shea Electric & Communications, LLC is offering support to help businesses align with NFPA 70B, a code recently elevated from a recommended practice to an enforceable standard.
Issued by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Dan said NFPA 70B sets detailed expectations for Electrical Preventive Maintenance programs.
The standard, he said, applies to a wide range of facilities, including industrial plants, commercial properties, office buildings and healthcare institutions.
Dan said it outlines procedures for regular inspections, documentation, equipment condition assessments and implementation of preventive measures designed to reduce failures and improve safety.
Shea Electric’s EPM services, he said, include code-compliant inspections and maintenance plans tailored to each facility’s operations and risk profile.
Technicians are trained in the most recent NFPA codes and understand how to implement preventive strategies that support safety and reduce long-term costs.
Dan said maintaining compliance with NFPA 70B not only reduces the likelihood of electrical incidents or downtime but can also extend equipment lifespan and support documentation in the event of an audit or claim.
“By following this active standard, facility managers and maintenance personnel work hand and glove with their electrical contractor to identify and address potential issues before they escalate into serious problems,” he said.
Dan said Shea Electric stays on top of current trends, work rules and codes, making sure employees are fully trained with the new procedures.
“We use NFPA 70B guidelines to ensure our clients are compliant with the latest rules and codes to create a safe working environment,” he said. “At Shea Electric, we are committed to staying up to date on the latest industry changes so we can offer the best service to our clients.”
