FOND DU LAC – SSM Health Behavioral Health at Camelot Drive is expanding trauma-informed mental health services following a $7,500 gift from the Agnesian HealthCare Foundation.

Sarah Arnold – psychology services manager for SSM Health Behavioral Health – said the funding will support Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training for additional clinicians and the purchase of specialized equipment, including light bars and tactile tappers used during therapy sessions.

Demand for trauma-focused care, Arnold said, continues to grow, prompting the investment.

“Our behavioral health teams have been offering EMDR for several years, and we’re excited to train more team members,” she said.

Per the release, EMDR is an evidence-based treatment designed to reduce symptoms of trauma and post-traumatic stress and is widely recommended by leading mental health authorities.

Arnold said clinicians are preparing to complete EMDR certification, which includes two intensive 20-hour weekend training sessions.

Once certified, they will utilize the newly funded equipment to expand patient access to the therapy.

Mason Gravelle – philanthropy development manager, Wisconsin Region, Agnesian HealthCare Foundation – said the investment will help strengthen the regional behavioral health workforce while increasing access to timely, effective trauma therapy for patients.
