SUAMICO – You scream, I scream, we all scream – for the opening of Suamico Creamery, which is set for June 10.
The new ice cream business will fill the void left by Scream ‘N Conuts, which previously held the space at 1757 Riverside Dr. in Suamico’s Vickery Village.
At the helm are co-managers Ally Schermetzler and Alison Henry, who met in middle school.
The pair said they have worked together in some capacity all the way up to their recent roles as special education teachers for the Manitowoc Public School District.
The ice cream connoisseurs said they discussed finding something different to do for the summer – cue the opening of Suamico Creamery.
“Scream ‘N Conuts was there for two summers, and people liked it,” Henry said. “When we found out they didn’t want to come back another summer, we joked about running a business.”
Henry said that “joke” started to become a reality when she and Schermetzler were encouraged to pursue the idea by her husband’s family (Jerry and Pat Henry), who founded Vickery Village in 1972.
From there, she said, things began to take shape.
Set up nicely
Since the shop was already home to another ice cream business, Henry said it was pretty much turnkey – other than some rebranding and signage.
Schermetzler said they toyed with a business name tied into teaching or having summers off.
“But Suamico Creamery fits with the vibe of the village,” she said.
She said it also helps tell people where they are located.
Schermetzler said the ice cream shop will sell Cedar Crest ice cream, a Wisconsin-based business founded in 1976, and will offer a variety of flavors of ice cream, sundaes and an ice cream flight, as well as homemade waffle cones.
About Vickery Village
Located about seven miles north of Green Bay off Highway 41, the site of Vickery Village is in what was once a part of Suamico’s business district.
According to Vickery Village’s website (vickeryvillagewi.com), Jerry and Pat Henry bought the Weed Mill Lumber Inn to save it from being burned in a fire demo, moved it to its current site and restored it to the present condition.
Today, the area is home to several businesses, including Chives Restaurant, Village Mane Salon, Paramount Performance and Klem Studios Photography, as well as wedding and event venues.
And now – Suamico Creamery, which is tucked behind Chives.

“Vickery Village is a place where people can come and get a taste of history, spend time with their family and enjoy some ice cream,” Henry said.
Opening
Henry and Schermetzler had a soft opening for the shop during the village’s May Day Celebration April 30.
They said they are also hoping to be open for business on Memorial Day weekend.
In anticipation of a busy summer schedule, Henry said they “have hired about 10 people and (are) going through more applications.”
The business will offer punch cards, where customers who purchase nine ice creams will get a free sundae.
Suamico Creamery will be open from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
