OSHKOSH – For the ninth time, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (UWO) has been recognized as one of the nation’s Best Schools for Men in Nursing by the American Association for Men in Nursing.

Per aamn.org, the award recognizes schools advancing the recruitment, representation and success of men in nursing – placing UWO alongside top programs such as Duke, Johns Hopkins, Rutgers, Vanderbilt and the University of Virginia.

“UWO’s ongoing recognition demonstrates our commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for all nursing students,” Jason Mott, professor of nursing and president of AAMN, said. “It’s one of the reasons many students choose UWO.”

Mott UWO has earned the distinction more times than any other school since the program began.

UWO Dean Seon Yoon Chung said the achievement highlights the college’s impact on health care locally and nationally.

“Our students and faculty exemplify what it means to advance excellence in nursing together,” she said.

About 15% of UWO nursing students are men – above national averages – with higher representation in accelerated and nurse anesthesia programs.

Jeremiah Ennen – a third-year DNP-nurse anesthesia student from Buffalo Center, Iowa – said he chose to come to UWO because of the nursing program’s reputation.

“UWO’s DNP-NA program offers some of the most diverse clinical experiences, ranging from independent practice in rural settings to Level 1 Trauma centers, providing me with the best clinical experience possible,” Ennen said.
