GREEN BAY – Families with newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital can now monitor their babies remotely through a newly installed camera system that provides live, 24/7 video access.
James Burke, manager of the HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital NICU, said the system – which was funded through donations to the HSHS St. Vincent/St. Mary’s Foundation, from individuals, families and local businesses – said this innovation in care is specifically built for NICUs and is designed to improve communication from newborn care teams as well as reduce stress and anxiety for families.
Currently, Burke said HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital has the only AngelEye system in Northeast Wisconsin.
“This technology takes us to the next level to say even when you’re not here, you can still be a part of the St. Vincent Children’s Hospital NICU team, keeping an eye on your baby,” he said.
Burke said the AngelEye system provides parents 24/7 live footage of babies, with future functionality including HIPAA-compliant one-way messaging, where the care team will be able to share updates and photos with parents.
A version of this technology, he said, will be added to the HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit later this year.
