NORTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN – Responding to changing client needs, North Central Wisconsin-based New Pulse Marketing has expanded from its digital roots into a print-focused business.
Owner Austin Zajichek said the company helps businesses stand out and get noticed.
“I’ve evolved a lot throughout the years,” he said. “Now, I mainly work in branded apparel, promotional products, trade show displays and printing. I started more in the digital space, doing websites, social media/graphics and whatnot. It wasn’t really what I enjoyed doing all the time.”
That’s when Zajichek said he made the switch to print media – something he said he enjoys much more.
“I found I liked doing anything that you can put your brand on,” he said. “That’s where I’m focused and where I want to build and grow the business.”
Zajichek said he focuses on small businesses, nonprofits and some larger companies as he works to grow the print media side of his business.
“With some of the larger companies I work with, it’s their promotional printing and apparel-type items,” he said. “You could also say I’ve moved away from contract work and do more transactional work now – when people need branded apparel, printed items, trade show items, etc. It’s not necessarily a six-month agreement on any sort of those things.”
Because Zajichek is the lone employee of New Pulse, he said he predominantly works out of the North Central Wisconsin area.
“I work with people in the Midwest as well, like Chicago and Minneapolis,” he said. “My business is heavily focused in Central Wisconsin, though – just because that’s where I am located.”
That local focus, Zajichek said, is reflected in events like the Greater Wausau Chamber of Commerce’s April 16 Business EXPO – an event he has attended for four consecutive years – which demonstrates how New Pulse helps businesses stand out.
“In an example like that, we can help find the right product for a business based on what they’re looking for and what their budget is,” he said. “After initial discussions, I’d present different options. I can help them design something – I have a degree in graphic design. I can help from production selection to design and then the overall planning of it.”
How it all began
Zajichek – a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point – said he initially started New Pulse because he recognized a lack of dedicated marketing services and resources for local small business owners and nonprofits.
He said he started his business not really knowing where it was going.
“I had a few people I knew who had either a business, a little side gig or just something small,” he said. “They didn’t really know how to do the things I knew how to do, such as creating graphics and doing website and social media stuff. That’s kind of where it started for me.”
Zajichek said he saw a business opportunity in using his skills to fill knowledge gaps for others.
“Maybe they wanted someone more local and potentially a little more affordable than a big-name marketing agency that could be out of most small businesses’ price range,” he said. “Initially, my target was small businesses and smaller nonprofits. Though I’ve grown a little more now, where I can handle larger businesses, I still place a special focus on small businesses and nonprofits.”

Zajichek said his appreciation for small businesses and nonprofits stems from the personal connections he is able to form with them.
“As a small business owner myself, that’s who I feel like I can help the most,” he said. “I understand what they’re going through and the lack of resources they might have, so that’s how I started this whole endeavor.”
Zajichek said he laid the groundwork for New Pulse at the end of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, officially launching in early 2021.
He said he started slow but has steadily grown the business over the past five-plus years.
The industry is changing
Zajichek said marketing – like many other industries – is changing, with more people entering the industry as technology has become more accessible.
“Whether that’s making shirts for businesses or doing laser engraving – some of the lower-barrier-to-entry technology and tools [are] available now,” he said. “For me, my processes and getting those set up and really honing in on the products I want to sell are what have evolved the most for me.”
Zajichek said he’s invested in tools over the years to help his internal processes run more efficiently.
“In the future, I’d like to look into a brick-and-mortar location, but for now, I can handle everything myself,” he said. “I’ll also be redoing my website and making it easier to navigate and fully represent my current product offerings. I’m potentially going to look into even some self-designer-type deals where people can customize and order products online completely by themselves.”
Though he works in the marketing industry helping to promote other businesses, Zajichek said he admits marketing his own business has been a challenge.
“Right now, my business is growing simply from word of mouth – which is awesome,” he said. “I don’t spend much on advertising at all. I’d also like to start posting more consistently on Facebook, too.”
