WAUPUN – Three City of Waupun facilities now have publicly accessible automated external defibrillators (AEDs) thanks to a grant from the Agnesian HealthCare Foundation.
Per the release, the AEDs were installed at the Waupun Baseball Complex, Waupun Recreation Arena and Waupun Aquatic Center, providing emergency resources at locations used by residents, families and visitors.
City Administrator Kathy Schlieve said the devices are designed to help respond to sudden cardiac arrest by delivering an electric shock to restore a normal heart rhythm when needed.
Schlieve said they can be used by bystanders following voice and visual instructions.
“By placing AEDs at these specific locations, we’re expanding access to critical emergency resources where families, youth and visitors gather every day,” she said. “These devices provide peace of mind, and more importantly, the potential to save lives when every second counts. This partnership helps make Waupun an even safer place to live, work and play.”
Deb Winterhack – Agnesian HealthCare Foundation director of development – said studies have shown that AEDs do make a difference for individuals in sudden cardiac arrest.
“In fact, studies have repeatedly shown the importance of immediate bystander CPR plus defibrillation when given within three to five minutes of a patient collapsing,” she said. “Having more AEDs available throughout our community will make a difference for someone when seconds count during a cardiac event. We are gratified to be able to help make our community a safer place to live and work.”
Winterhack said the foundation provides AED grants to help expand access to emergency response equipment throughout the community.
