AMHERST – Amherst Communications recently announced it is transitioning to 100% employee ownership through an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP).
CEO Ray Tetzloff said the move, pending Federal Communications Commission approval, is part of a long-term succession plan aimed at preserving the company’s local stewardship and stability.
Formerly Amherst Telephone Company, Tetzloff said Amherst Communications has been family-owned for generations.
Recognizing the importance of preserving that legacy, Tetzloff said the ESOP gives employees a meaningful stake in the company’s success while ensuring continued reliable service for local customers.
“We’ve all seen what happens when local companies get bought out,” he said. “Decisions start
coming from people who don’t live here, who don’t know the community, who don’t
understand what matters to our customers. Being 100% employee-owned means more than paperwork or stock. We take pride not just in doing our jobs, but in knowing we own the outcome.”
Tetzloff said the transition will not affect the quality of service, and customers can expect the same dependable, friendly experience they’ve always known.
“We want everyone to know, this isn’t the end of Amherst Telephone Company’s story, it’s the start of an exciting next chapter,” he said.
Tetzloff said the company hopes to complete the transaction by the end of the year.
