STANLEY – Aspirus Stanley Hospital has been named among the top hospitals in the nation for sepsis care performance, according to a recent Becker’s Hospital Review report based on Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) data.

According to Nicole Dekan – nursing supervisor at Aspirus Stanley Hospital – the hospital achieved a SEP-1 score of 97, placing it among just 25 hospitals nationwide to reach scores of 95 or higher and making it the only facility in Wisconsin to do so, according to the report.

The SEP-1 measure – per beckershospitalreview.com – evaluates how effectively hospitals follow evidence-based protocols for the early identification and treatment of severe sepsis and septic shock.

Dekan said the recognition reflects strong coordination among care teams and a consistent focus on timely, evidence-based treatment.

She said she credits teamwork, rapid response protocols and ongoing quality improvement efforts for the performance results.

“Delivering high-quality sepsis care requires coordination across multiple disciplines and a strong culture of accountability,” she said. “Our teams are deeply committed to acting quickly, following evidence-based protocols, and continuously improving how we care for patients facing this serious condition.”
