WAUSAU – Aspirus Wausau Hospital (AWH) is moving into the final phases of its ongoing renovation of its emergency department (ED).
With the completion of the first phase, patients now have access to a new ED.
“The new emergency department is a testament to our commitment to providing exceptional care to our community,” Mason Lucca, AWH Emergency Department director, said. “The new space will enable us to better serve our patients.”
The final phases of the project, Lucca said, will include renovating the existing AWH ED and waiting room area into additional ED treatment space.
Once construction is completed and finished, the 29,500-square-foot expansion will nearly double the current space, helping to alleviate space constraints on emergency care in Wausau and the surrounding communities.
Some of the project enhancement include:
- Additional and larger rooms (increase from 18 to 30)
- Additional triage room
- Additional critical care rooms
- Larger waiting room
- Improved patient drop-off and parking
- Enhanced sustainability with new, energy-efficient equipment (heating/cooling/lighting)
AWH will maintain its 18 current treatment room count with no disruption throughout the next phases of construction.
The final phases of the project are expected to be completed in approximately one year.
