SCHOFIELD – Though Blume Haus Studio (1699 Schofield Ave., Suite 303) only opened its doors last September, Owner Xee Vang said the roots of the business go back several years.

A lifelong photographer, Vang said the closest studio where space could be rented was in the Green Bay area.

“I’ve been a photographer for more than a decade now, and I had to travel to bigger cities to rent out studios,” she said. “That really inspired me to bring this type of business closer to home.”

Vang said the idea for the business was in progress for about two years before officially opening Blume Haus.

“I had been creating vision boards and writing out my business plan, along with engaging with my photographer friends to see if they had any interest in this type of space,” she said.

Just as the business itself, Vang said naming the business evolved naturally as well.

“I ended up picking Blume Haus because I thought the word ‘bloom’ would be perfect for a creative space where people can bloom and grow their business and projects,” she said. “‘Haus,’ or house, is a safe and relaxed space for people – something we offer our customers.”

Vang said the 1,300-square-foot studio and its 12-foot ceilings offer an industrial vibe with a multitude of possibilities.

“Our creators tell us they like working within the open industrial look,” she said. “They appreciate the white walls in the main space, the lime-washed walls in the boudoir room and light oak flooring. We offer a multifunctional space with natural light, providing photographers, videographers, social media content creators and artists an unparalleled environment for their creative pursuits.”

Vang said the studio has a wide range of equipment, fabric and paper backdrops, photography studio lighting and contemporary décor and furniture for clients to use when utilizing the space.

She said they are seeing peaks in their business during holiday times.

“Around Christmastime, we were really busy because people wanted to get their Christmas cards out,” she said. “Now, we are heading into spring, and with Mother’s Day, there are several bookings related to that. Blume Haus hosts sessions celebrating motherhood with expectant mothers, too.”

As a photographer living in Wisconsin, Vang said she has dealt with seasonal weather firsthand.

“During the winter, it’s a challenge to shoot outside,” she said. “Our studio offers a break from the elements that photographers face.”

Vang said there are many benefits for photographers to create indoors versus outdoors.

“The advantage to having a photo shoot in a studio is that it is a controlled environment,” she said. “You don’t have the weather or varied lighting to deal with. At our studio, the artificial lighting can be dimmed if necessary. That, along with the clean, industrial setting, is very appealing for our photographers.”

Vang said people celebrate many different milestones in life – such as engagements and birthdays – and Blume Haus provides a great backdrop to help capture those moments.

“People love photos,” she said. “People love sharing their milestones, and we want to provide that space for capturing them. For example, there’s a tradition for a one-year-old to dive into their birthday cake. We have sessions at the studio that capture these kinds of cake smashes for special birthdays.”

Vang said she is a full-time wedding photographer and understands what is needed for a successful photo shoot – which has come in handy when outfitting Blume Haus with equipment and props.

“The studio is designed with photographers in mind, offering everything needed for a successful photo shoot with light options and thoughtfully inspiring backdrops ideal for capturing images,” she said.

Vang said the plan is to continue to enhance the studio space with new props while adding special events.

“We plan to bring in arches, clawfoot bathtubs and other backdrops,” she said. “Several years from now, we would like to open a second location that offers more space for bigger productions.”

In addition, Vang said the space features Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speakers; complimentary water, hot tea and coffee and a garment steamer.

Equipment-wise, Vang said, some of the complimentary items include C-stands, V flats, a reflector, ladders and step stools, extension cords, a phone tripod and a camera tripod.

Some add-ons available at the studio, she said, include paper/fabric backgrounds, two Godox SL-60W LED video lights and two 32-inch-by-32-inch Godox Softboxes.

A little of everything

Vang said she loves seeing all types of creatives enter the studio.

“Even if you’re not a photographer, videographer or content creator, we welcome all artists to use our space to create,” she said. “If you want to stop in and work for a day to edit photos, for example, we welcome that. We love to see new faces.”

Vang said there is a growing interest in photography.

“Capturing moments and creating content is very big right now,” she said. “We are planning to host various workshops to bring in new people for events like photography classes and floral design. I think our cozy settings mimic a warm lifestyle.”
