MENASHA – Bluebird Boutique has spread its wings to a larger storefront at 1650 Appleton Road in Menasha.

To serve Bluebird’s increasing clientele, Owner Tanya Stegall said the new store – located just two miles from its previous location – offers more space.

Stegall said business – which The Business News first highlighted in its Sept. 7, 2022 issue – has been good for the boutique, with its “eclectic mix of home decor, gourmet foods, clothing, jewelry [and] accessories.”

“We definitely have grown our customer base,” she said, attributing the growth to social media and word of mouth. “This last year has been unbelievable.”

That rapid growth, Stegall said, made it clear Bluebird needed additional room, leading her to a new location in the Menasha Marketplace retail center, where she has “more than doubled our space.”

“With moving to a larger location, we’re able to bring more to our current customers – more options,” she said. “Also, with getting so many new customers, maybe the style we had in the smaller location wasn’t the perfect fit for their style, so we’re able to offer more options.”

Whereas the old store had limitations, Stegall said the new one allows her to cater to all shapes, styles and preferences.

“Maybe somebody likes a certain cut of tops to be shorter, and others like a more flowy [top, for example],” she said.

The other primary benefit of the new location, Stegall said, is its parking lot, offering not only a vast increase in available spots but also easier entry and exit for cars.

“[At the former space], we would hear, ‘I didn’t stop yesterday because there were quite a few cars in the parking lot, and I wasn’t comfortable pulling in’ – just the way that that driveway was…,” she said. “That’s probably one of the biggest [comments], is, ‘I feel so much safer pulling in this parking lot.’”

Stegall said the boutique marked the opening of its new location with a grand opening celebration May 7-9.

The new nest

Stegall said the Menasha Marketplace space had been on her radar for 18-24 months.

“When it [was] brought to [our attention] again late last summer, we looked into it a little more, started looking at numbers, looking at how we wanted to grow and everything just fell into place this time around,” she said.

Stegall said the location – “right off [US] 441” – was appealing, as was its proximity to new and well-established retailers and restaurants.

“[There’s] a lot of action happening here right now,” she said of the area.

Over the years of the Bluebird, Stegall said she simultaneously presided over three storefronts: one in New London, one in Winneconne and the now-former Menasha location, before consolidating efforts at just the Racine Street location.

Now, at this fourth space, she said, “our inventory storage room is as large as our first store was 13 years ago.”

Stegall said this footprint made for a significantly larger build-out/renovation, but it’s made for a brighter, more open Bluebird for her customers to appreciate.

“They come in a little bit more chill and relaxed than before,” she said.

This all contributes to what Stegall said is her goal for Bluebird: “a space that brings people joy, hope and happiness.”

“Every time we pick out product, we’re [asking ourselves], ‘What does this do for our customer? How does that make them feel better? How does it fulfill their needs?’” she said.

Now carrying an even broader selection of merchandise, Stegall said Bluebird offers “a little something for everyone.”

“We’re even working on a small footprint for a men’s collection,” she said. “We find that ladies often are buying an outfit for the weekend, and they want their significant other to match, so we’re looking into that also and working on those in the upcoming months.”

Stegall said she’s grateful for her loyal Bluebird Boutique customers following her to the new, improved space, and hopes it will help her share even more of what bluebirds symbolize: happiness.

“When you shop with us, we hope you leave feeling better than when you came in the door,” she said.
