FOND DU LAC – Envision Greater Fond du Lac has celebrated several downtown revitalization milestones recently, including the grand opening of Bird’s Eye View Optical and completion of the historic Rueping Lofts.
Envision Greater Fond du Lac President and CEO Sadie Howell said the community ribbon-cutting event highlighted public-private partnerships behind several projects aimed at strengthening downtown Fond du Lac.
Howell said the celebration also marked the public opening of the Downtown Art Lot mural project and the one-year anniversary of Fond du Lac Beer Company.
“Our downtown continues to evolve because of entrepreneurs and developers who see the potential in preserving our community’s history while creating new opportunities for residents and visitors,” she said.
Located at 183 S. Main St., Howell said Rueping Lofts transformed a historic 1889 building into a mixed-use destination featuring Bird’s Eye View Optical on the first floor and seven apartments.
She said the project preserves historic features while adding modern amenities.
Howell said the Downtown Art Lot at 13 Fourth St. Court features 11 large-scale murals that transform a shared parking area into a public art destination.
Just around the corner, she said Fond du Lac Beer Company also marked its first year as a downtown gathering place at 21 Fourth St. Court.
Howell said Owner Mike Leb transformed a long-underutilized property into a popular community gathering place, featuring a brewery, event space and welcoming atmosphere that has quickly become a downtown destination.
