FOND DU LAC – Its story dates back decades – when a man named Dave Wright realized his vision of opening Wrightway Home Improvement, an exterior remodeling contractor.

Fast forward nearly 50 years, the name remains the same, as does its focus on exterior remodeling – from windows to siding to roofing to gutters to awnings.

Today, Wrightway – located at 235 West Scott St. in Fond du Lac – is under the ownership of Joe Mand and Jon Pitzen and serves the Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, Madison and Milwaukee areas.

Mand, who had worked in sales previously, joined the company as a partner in 2007.

“My work ethic was probably my strongest strength, and I was good at retail and communicating and understanding customers,” he said.

Under the guidance of Mand and Pitzen, Wrightway Home Improvement has continued to hold its own in the industry – both locally and nationally.

The company was recently named a Qualified Remoldeler’s (an industry-focused magazine) Top 500 Remoldeler in the country.

Wrightway came in at No. 403 on the publication’s 45th annual list.

According to Qualified Remodeler, its editorial staff selected Wrightway for the distinction based on a set of criteria, including:
Installed remodeling dollar volumeTotal years in businessIndustry association membershipIndustry certificationIndustry awards and community services
According to Qualified Remodeler’s list, Wrightway had $4,772,940 in total 2022 remodeling revenue – with $5.2 million expected in 2023.

?“Based on Qualified Remodeler’s analysis, the Top 500 firms tend to share several common attributes, including strong revenues, a commitment to customer service, insightful sales techniques and strong customer loyalty,” Qualified Remodeler Owner and Editorial Director Patrick O’Toole said in a release. “These attributes helped put the firms on this list and contribute to their success.”

This isn’t Wrightway’s first time on the list.

?A Better Business Bureau accredited business and member of the Fond du Lac Home Builders Association, Wrightway made the 2010 “Qualified Remodeler” Top 500 Dealer and Exterior 200 Dealer lists.

Standing out
While many home improvement businesses come and go, Mand said he attributes Wrightway’s continued success to its core values:
Build lasting relationshipsSupport the communityBe professionalProvide creative solutionsDeliver top-notch customer service.
Mand said talking to a live person on the phone, not making false claims in advertising and an experienced sales staff that avoids high-pressure sales tactics are also important to attracting and retaining satisfied customers.

“We answer the phone, and you talk to a live person,” he said. “We have a showroom, so you can stop in and see the product before you purchase it. With our competitive pricing, our large volume allows us to pass direct savings from our manufacturers on to our customers.”

Like other industries, Mand said trends in the home improvement industry vary.

In recent years, he said customers are increasingly opting for new front doors, which is a relatively inexpensive way to make an update with a big impact.

Another trend, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, Mand said, is making improvements to outdoor living spaces.

“Retractable awnings, screens, pergolas and decks have also become more popular,” he said.

With its years of experience in the industry, Mand said Wrightway staff knows what lasts and what doesn’t.

And since nobody likes to do anything twice, Mand said they do it right the first time – “We call it the “Wrightway.”
