FOND DU LAC – The Green Bay Packers Foundation awarded a $250,000 matching grant to the Dr. George E. Koonce Scholars Program, which aims to eliminate barriers to higher education for all students.

The Packers Foundation’s Impact Grants are aimed at organizations that focus on various community needs.

“The Packers Foundation had many organizations to choose from for these Impact

Grants,” Koonce, senior vice president for university relations at Marian University in Fond du Lac, said. “We are honored and blessed they saw the value in our Koonce Scholars Program and its potential to open a world of opportunities for these deserving students.”

Koonce started the Koonce Scholars Program a year ago to offer low-income and underserved students a path to a college degree, with both financial and academic support.

The next step will be to gather donations to match the Green Bay Packers Impact grant.

“If we raise the matching $250,000, the total benefit to students in the program will be $500,000,” Josie Dowling, executive assistant for academic affairs at Marian, said.
