ASHWAUBENON – Over the last 80 years, the home appliance industry has seen countless advancements, and through it all, Green Bay has had a consistent resource for these products: the Gmack family.
Now, after generations of ownership, the family has decided to sell its business – Gmack Television & Appliances – and new Owner Jonathan Blank said he intends to carry on the high-quality inventory and service the Gmacks generated.
With the store – now renamed GMACK-My Appliance Center – Blank said he and Manager Michael Langworthy will be “honoring the legacy of Gmack [Television & Appliances] with the same great products and customer care you have trusted for decades.”
A specialized store, staff
Still located at 2242 S. Ridge Road in Ashwaubenon, Blank said GMACK will continue to carry appliances such as “washers, dryers, refrigerators, ranges, dishwashers, over-the-range microwaves” and more.
Blank said part of why he updated the name is because the previous incarnation of the store had long since ceased to stock televisions.
He said he’s also made some inventory changes due to shifting appliance trends.
“In the past, they had done a lot of wall ovens, cooktops, etc.,” he said. “We can still get them, but the markets kind of float away a little bit.”
Blank said GMACK can also procure specialized and upscale appliances like under-counter wine refrigerators as needed.
Among the brands the store stocks/can order, he said, are “American-owned brands such as Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag and Amana at the most competitive prices.”
Though it’s an independent, specialty store, Blank said GMACK can offer competitive prices through its membership with BrandSource, an appliance-buying co-op with 600 members, which “does make a huge difference.”
“We’re getting good pricing,“ he said. “We’re not going to be way higher because we’re one little store. We actually buy with other stores.”

Blank said as appliance technology continues to advance – with many models offering Wi-Fi connectivity and app-based controls – some customers look for high-tech, “smart” appliances, while others prefer more minimalist options.
Perhaps the greatest advantage of being a specialty store, he said, is the way staff are able to offer in-depth knowledge and recommendations to customers – a level of customer service he said big-box employees can rarely meet.
“You can actually talk to us – all we do is appliances,” he said. “We’re not running from the plumbing department to the appliance department and back to the flooring department.”
With a smaller store, Blank also said customers don’t have to hunt down the appliance section, let alone a store employee.
Personal service
Blank said GMACK also features in-house delivery and service teams.
The latter, Blank said, known as Appliance Service Professionals, provides a closer connection to customers, replacing the previous model that relied on third-party technicians – a practice common among big-box stores.
Langworthy said the store offers delivery and installation services for low fees, and – for no charge – also takes away old appliances.
“We’re full-service,” he said.
Though online shopping may offer slightly lower prices, Blank said it creates a highly impersonal experience, which he considers inadequate for a major purchase like an appliance.
Furthermore, service for appliances ordered online, he said, leaves customers to entirely fend for themselves.
For example, should a large appliance arrive damaged, he said exchanging merchandise can be an exceedingly cumbersome process.
“If you have any issues [with appliances ordered online], where do you go?” he said. “A lot of these online companies, there’s no number to even call – you just send them an email…. In our case, we’ve got people answering the phone – ‘Oh, yeah, we’ve got a delivery guy who can come and switch it out or whatever we have to do.’”

Blank said the GMACK team assists customers throughout the entire purchase process, able to answer any questions and follow up with any appliance issues.
Some changes in store
Initially, Blank said much will remain the same with GMACK-My Appliance Center – however, potential changes are on the horizon.
Because the store’s current location is relatively close to a number of stores offering appliances in Green Bay and Ashwaubenon, Blank said he is thinking about relocating.
“We’re actually planning to move to Bellevue – that’s the actual goal,” he said, adding that it could happen as soon as the next couple months.
Should such a move occur, Blank said he’ll consider at that time if he’ll carry over the Gmack name, as the family’s legacy was very much tied to its current location.
Whatever changes may be coming, he said the quality inventory and service will remain just as good, if not improve.
“We are committed to maintaining the values that have made GMACK a trusted part of the community through all these years,” he said. Find GMACK-My Appliance Center on Facebook for more information.
