SHEBOYGAN – HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital has started a $5.5 million renovation of its Women and Infants Center – featuring modernized labor and delivery rooms, a tub room, a refreshed nursery and an upgraded nurse station to improve patient care and staff efficiency.
Chief Administrative Officer Andrew Bowman said the project will be completed in three phases by July 2026, allowing the center to remain fully operational throughout construction.
“This is much more than an aesthetic upgrade,” he said. “This is an investment into the communities our hospital serves, to ensure the women and babies we care for receive the best possible care in the most comfortable environment, both today and well into the future.”
Bowman said the renovation is funded through $1.1 million in community donations and a $4.4 million strategic capital investment by HSHS.
Laurie Radke – foundation director for the HSHS Wisconsin Market – said more than 470 donors contributed, the largest response in the hospital’s history.
“We are grateful to every single one of them for helping us improve health care for women and children in our community,” she said.
Bowman said though the hospital’s current Women and Infants Center serves the community well, this renovation comes at the perfect time – a time when the healthcare landscape is rapidly changing.
“HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital is invested in this community and here for the long haul, which is why we’re so excited to be improving the labor and post-partum experience and continue delivering exceptional care for generations to come,” he said.
