Autism Society of Greater Wisconsin receives $100,000 DHS grant
MENASHA – The Autism Society of Greater Wisconsin in Menasha was among 10 statewide organizations, and the only Northeastern Wisconsin organization, to share in a $1 million grant from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) designed to help reduce disparities in behavioral healthcare.

Each of the 10 organizations received a $100,000 grant – which is being funded through the American Rescue Plan Act.

Representatives from the Autism Society of Greater Wisconsin – an affiliate of the Autism Society of America – said the organization will use its grant to support a series of trainings on the needs of people with autism and how to better serve them.

April is designated as National Autism Awareness Month, focusing on autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), which includes a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 36 children in the United States today and an estimated 5,437,988 (2.21%) of adults in the United States.

The Autism Society of Greater Wisconsin is hosting a Sensory Friendly Vaccine Clinic from 3:30-6:30 p.m. May 15, at the Building for Kids Children’s Museum in Appleton.
