FOND DU LAC – SSM Health Greater Fond du Lac has earned an international quality award for its HeartFlow program.
Recipients of the HeartFlow CT Quality Award of Excellence are determined based on metrics assessing the quality and adoption of a medical center’s cardiovascular imaging program.
The award signifies that SSM Health Greater Fond du Lac was in the top 18% of global medical centers identifying and understanding patients’ heart health by utilizing coronary CT and the HeartFlow Analysis.
Marc Atzenhoefer, an SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic cardiologist, said HeartFlow enables the cardiology team to choose the most appropriate treatment strategies to guide better outcomes for each patient on an individual basis.
“Now, in one test, we can see if you have disease, the type of plaque in your heart vessels, the severity of the blockage and also the physiologic impact of the blockage,” he said.
With the HeartFlow Analysis, Atzenhoefer said physicians are provided a 3D, computer-based model of the heart’s arteries and their flow allowing them to virtually determine the severity of blockages.
HeartFlow helps to determine which patients would benefit from stents versus medications alone, giving the care team a personalized approach to each patient’s treatment plan.
SSM Health Greater Fond du Lac reports it is the first to offer this noninvasive test in the SSM Health Wisconsin region.
