NEENAH – Valley VNA Senior Care held an official groundbreaking Oct. 6 for its expansion project.

“This project will allow us to make building renovations that ensure people with dementia or increased physical requirements will have better accommodations and enjoy their surroundings more,” Valley VNA President and CEO Theresa Pichelmeyer said.

Pichelmeyer said the project is being funded with monies raised through “Caring for Generations: a campaign to ensure quality care for those we love,” which was launched before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City of Neenah provided a $4.4 million grant received through the American Rescue Plant Act toward the project.

“The funds are to be used for enhancing the health and safety of vulnerable communities,” Neenah Major Jane Lang said. “The Valley VNA project matches that description and even more with the addition of the new air filtration system, which will improve residents’ and employees’ health,” she said.

Tom Martin, president and partner with Community Living Services in Appleton, which is constructing the facility, said the project’s first phase includes building 11 rooms with common space for activities and a courtyard, as well as the remodeling of Amber Court.

Once those two projects are complete, he said the rest of the building will be remodeled, which includes knocking out walls to create larger rooms, bathrooms, replacing kitchens, increasing natural light, reconfiguring common space for activities and removing barriers for visualization of residents.

Martin said the entire project is expected to be complete by 2024.
