GREEN BAY — On 940 Hansen Road right off South Oneida Street, a local restaurant is celebrating its first year of business, with its sights set on the future.
Tajín Mexican Bar & Grill opened in January 2023 with the idea of investing in the community and beginning a new journey.
“What started as an investment is now one of my best projects,” Owner Leurys Fernandez said.
The Mexican grill — which serves popular dishes, such as the Tajín asada fries, the Tajín burrito and molcajete — which features shrimp, steak, chicken, chorizo, bell pepper, onions, cactus and a red sauce in a stone bowl (known as a molcajete) — is now planning to integrate Dominican food to the menu.
As Tajín celebrates its first year of business, Owner Leurys Fernandez said the restaurant is looking to add Dominican dishes to the menu starting Feb. 2. Rachel Sankey Photo
“(We will be one of) the first multicultural restaurants in the area having- the coexistence of two different cultures starting Feb. 2,” Fernandez said.

A year under its belt
Though Tajín’s first year “has been one of great challenges,” such as learning what the public’s taste is and building up its portfolio of clients, Fernandez said he’s grateful for those experiences as they have contributed to his growth and ability to provide better service.
“Thanks to the quality of the food, the response from the clients has been excellent,” he said. “Now, we have frequent clients that belong to the Tajín family.”
And that, Fernandez said, is exactly what sets Tajín apart from other restaurants in the area — “we are a family restaurant that cares about the service to our customers from the moment they arrive at the establishment until they decide to go home.”
“The difference is the authenticity of Tajín’s food and the hard work for excellent service,” he said. “Every day, it is reflected in the reception of our customers.”
Throughout the first year of business, Leurys Fernandez said he received a lot of help and guidance from multiple individuals — Tajín’s manager, Arturo Andrade, being one of them. Rachel Sankey Photo
Throughout the last year of business, Fernandez said he could not have done it without the support system he has been able to create and count on.
“I have met many great people who have made themselves available for the support and growth of the restaurant,” he said. “If it were not for their contribution and knowledge they have given me, the path would have become more complicated.”
One of those who have been monumental for Tajín’s first year, he said, is Arturo Andrade — the restaurant’s manager.
“I have found the support in everything related to the management (side) of the restaurant, and together we are working day by day to meet the goals and objectives (we have in place),” he said.
Tajín Mexican Grill is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.
