FOND DU LAC – Marian University has announced a strategic realignment of its athletic programs that includes the planned discontinuation of its men’s and women’s lacrosse teams.
Athletic Director Tony Draves said the decision follows an internal review focused on long-term sustainability, citing recruiting challenges, roster depth and operational demands.
“Decisions like this are never easy,” he said. “However, this strategic shift allows us to invest more deeply in programs where we see strong participation and competitive growth.”
Draves said resources previously supporting lacrosse will be redirected to strengthen existing programs and enhance student-athlete experiences across other sports.
He said it will support current lacrosse student-athletes through the transition, including academic guidance and assistance with transfer opportunities for those seeking to continue competing.
