APPLETON – Catalpa Foundation and Catalpa Health have unveiled a new donor recognition mural in Appleton honoring community supporters who helped establish and grow pediatric mental health services in the region.

The mural, located in Catalpa Health’s community room, was revealed during a ceremony marking National Mental Health Awareness Month.

Kat Gottlieb, mural artist and longtime Catalpa partner, said the mural recognizes founding partners, major donors and community leaders who have contributed to the organization’s mission of expanding access to children’s mental health care.

Gottlieb said the artwork also symbolizes the catalpa tree, reflecting themes of growth, support and sustainability in community health care.

Catalpa Foundation Executive Director Amanda Charais said the organization has delivered more than 58,000 appointments in the past year alone, serving nearly 8,000 children and families across Wisconsin.

Founded in 2012 through a partnership among Ascension Wisconsin, Children’s Wisconsin and ThedaCare, Charais said Catalpa Health provides outpatient therapy, psychiatry, diagnostic services, school-based care and intensive outpatient programs for youth.

“From the very beginning, our donors, partners and advocates have been the heart of Catalpa,” she said. “This mural is a tribute to the individuals, families, organizations and community leaders who believed in this mission and helped build it into what it is today.”
