o8iV-EAVs7EFOND DU LAC – Who doesn’t love chocolate?
I certainly do – and lots of it.
Though I could eat chocolate all day – and some days I do – I know at my advanced age of 51, I have to be careful and not overeat the tasty treat made from cocoa beans.
But don’t the “experts” say eating chocolate is good for you?
A quick online search said exactly that – eating small amounts of chocolate regularly might lower blood pressure, prevent liver damage, keep your heart healthy, make you feel good, boost brain power, keep you slim, etc.
It does make me feel good – that I can agree with.

So, I guess we can describe my recent visit to CC’s Chocolates Cafe, located at 57 N. Macy St. in Fond du Lac, for my 12th installment of Just dropping by good for my health.
CC’s – a full-service specialty bakery – offers homemade chocolates, baked goods, meals, ice cream, candy and coffee.
Walking into the store, my sense of smell immediately was put on alert, followed shortly by my sense of taste.
Modest beginnings
Owner Claudette Rahmer said an early love of baking led to her eventually opening the store.
“We’ve been in this brick-and-mortar location for two years,” she said. “We recently – on Oct. 2 – celebrated our second anniversary.”
Rahmer said all the chocolates and baked goods are made in-house from scratch, but a few other store items are brought in from outside.
“We have a few candies we bring in – it offers options,” she said. “We get our coffee from Terra Verda in Chilton and also bring in our ice cream from Scoops (in Chilton).”
Rahmer said CC’s even makes its marshmallows.
“It’s time-consuming more than anything,” she said. “It’s a lot of whipping.”
Rahmer must have seen me eyeing one of those marshmallows in the case because before I knew it, she grabbed one out of the display case and let The Business News Staff try a piece – delicious.

“I’ve developed the recipes I use over the years,” she said. “The caramel recipe I use is my grandmother’s.”
It’s not just about chocolate at CC’s – it offers much more.
“We always have scones and turnovers, too,” she said. “We offer hot and cold coffee drinks and have a small breakfast and lunch menu. We also offer dessert catering services.”
Before leaving CC’s, I got to hand dip my own pretzels – which were very tasty, I might add – prepare a coffee drink and pick up my $17 order through the drive-thru.
Half a year already
Starting the Just dropping by series earlier this year, we’ve nearly visited a “baker’s dozen” of businesses – making my trip to CC’s a good fit.
