OSHKOSH – Following a nationwide search, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (UWO) has named Edwin Martini as its next provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Martini – who has 20 years of higher education experience – will begin work July 5, following the retirement of current Provost John Koker who has held the post since October 2018.

“Martini has the right mix of experiences and insights to move us forward as we fulfill the promise of UWO 2030, our new strategic plan,” Chancellor Andy Leavitt said. “He comes in at a time of great change and possibility.”

Martini comes to UWO from Western Michigan University (WMU), where he currently serves as vice provost for teaching and learning.

As the new chief academic officer, Martini will be responsible for leading UWO’s colleges, faculty, instructional staff and academic programs.

“I am excited to get to Oshkosh so I can continue to get to know the communities, the campuses and the people who make them run, and to help lead UWO forward into its next chapter,” he said.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in American studies from Pitzer College in Claremont, California, and a doctorate in American studies from the University of Maryland.
